Lankathilake temple, Kandy. SRI LANKA

Lankatilaka Vihara is an ancient Buddhist temple situated in Udunuwara of Kandy, Sri Lanka. It is considered as the most magnificent architectural edifice created during the Gampola era.The history of the temple goes back to the 14th century.

The vihara buildings have been built on a natural rock called Panhalgala Rock. Among the buildings the image house possess characteristically outstanding architectural features, embellished with traditional Sinhalese sculptures.

Polonnaruwa remains as the royal ancient city of the Kingdom of Polonnaruwa, he second most ancient of Sri Lanka's kingdoms, Polonnaruwa was first declared the capital city by King Vijayabahu I, who defeated Chola invaders in 1070 to reunite the country once more under a local leader.
