Hohenzollern Castle, GERMANY

One of the most visited castles in Germany, is located atop Berg Hohenzollern, a 234m hill rising above the towns of Hechingen and Bisingen in the foothills of the Swabian Alps of central Baden-Württemberg, Germany.

The first fortress on the mountain was constructed in the early 11th century. After many destructions and reconstructions, The final castle was built between 1846 and 1867 with a style based on English Gothic Revival architecture and the Châteaux of the Loire Valley.

Sigmaringen Castle, GERMANY

Sigmaringen Castle (German: Schloss Sigmaringen) was the princely castle and seat of government for the Princes of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen. Situated in the region of Baden-Württemberg, Germany, this castle dominates the skyline of the town of Sigmaringen. During the closing months of World War II, Schloss Sigmaringen was briefly the seat of the Vichy French Government after France was liberated by the Allies. Photos from October 2015

Kasbashs from MOROCCO

A kasbah is a fortress (citadel) but the word may also be used to describe the old part of a city. A kasbah has high walls, usually without windows and sometimes, they were built on hilltops so that they could be more easily defended. Having a kasbah built was a sign of wealth of some families in the city, like for instance Telouet, the Kasbah the Glaouis dynasty. Almost all cities had their kasbah, this building being something necessary for the city to survive. Most of them don't last much due to the material used to built them, mostly consisting in Mud, stones and pissé (Mud pressed and dried between wooden boards). Photos from October 2012

The Royal Palace is a complex of buildings which served as the royal residence of the kings of Cambodia since its building in 1860, with a period of absence during the turmoil of the Khmer Rouges’ reign of terror.

Alhambra, Granada. ANDALUSIA

Built as a Moorish fortress in the ninth century, and later converted into a Royal palace for the Nasrid dynasty, the Alhambra dominates a hill right over the center of Granada. The Palace and the fabulous gardens is one of Europe’s jewel in Arabic architecture and probably one of Spain top five touristic attractions. After the reconquista in 1492, some Christian constructions, such as the surprising Palace of Charles V (photo 4), were inserted within the Nasrid fortifications. Other highlights are the court of the lions (Photos 1, 6 and 7), the Generalife palace and Gardens (Photos 3 and 8), the Alcazaba (Photo 5) and the Court of the Myrtles (Photo 10).
