The Himba. NAMIBIA

The Himba are an ethnic group of less than 50.000 people living in northern Namibia, close to the Kunene River. They are mostly nomadic, pastoral people and they breed cattle and goats. The women are famous for covering themselves with otjize, a mixture of butter fat with a strong red color, possibly used as a protection from the sun as well as for beauty purposes.
Photos taken in Summer 2011.
