The Hundred faces of the Bayon, Angkor. CAMBODIA
The Bayon, centrepiece of Jayavarman VII's massive program of monumental construction and public works, was the last state temple to be built at Angkor, It's mostly dedicated to the Buddha, though a great number of minor and local deities were also represented.
The similarity of the 216 gigantic faces on the temple's towers to other statues of the king has led many scholars to the conclusion that the faces are representations of Jayavarman VII himself. Others have said that the faces belong to the bodhisattva of compassion called Avalokitesvara or Lokesvara. The two hypotheses need not be regarded as mutually exclusive.

Sé de Porto. PORTUGAL
The Porto Cathedral (Portuguese: Sé do Porto), located in the historical centre of the city of Porto, Portugal, is one of the city's oldest monuments and one of the most important Romanesque monuments in Portugal.
The Gothic cloister of Porto Cathedral is decorated with baroque azulejos by Valentim de Almeida (between 1729 and 1731). They depict the life of the Virgin Mary and Ovid's Metamorphoses. The upper terrace is decorated with tile panels by António Vidal depicting some weird scenes, like the chase of the ostrich (Photo 8). Photos from Spring 2014.

Luang Prabang, LAOS
Far from the usually typically noisy southasian city, located at the confluence of the Nam Khan river and Mekong River, Luang is captivating. Laos is a fascinating country but the old capital of the Kingdom of the 9000 elephants is a highlight in its own. Photos from October 2013

The wooden churches of Maramures. ROMANIA
These
eight churches from different periods
show
a
variety of designs and craftsmanship adopted in these narrow, high,
timber constructions with their characteristic tall, slim clock
towers at the western end of the building, either single- or
double-roofed and covered by shingles. As such, they are a particular
vernacular expression of the cultural landscape of this mountainous
area of northern Romania. Photos from 1992, taken in the churches of
Budesti,
Rozvalea and Ieud.
