Le Pont d’Avignon. FRANCE

Saint Bénezet Bridge, universally known as le pont d’Avignon was built on the 12th century, but was reconstructed several times because of its frequent collapses during floods. Only 4 of the original 22 arches remain intact. The bridge once crossed the Barthelasse Island, where there was a popular recreation spot (Some cafés are still there), where people danced beneath the bridge, and not on the bridge, as suggested by the famous song. Photos from 2009.
