Deadvlei. NAMIBIA

Not far from the more famous Sossulsvlei, the deadvlei is an authentic wonder of the world that we visited in summer 2011. The “Dead lake” is a white clay pan, surrounded by some of the world’s highest dunes. Some camel thorn trees lived in the Deadvlei when there was some water on it. The trees died, as there no longer was enough water to survive. The remaining skeletons of the trees are believed to be about 900 years old and are now black because of the intense sun, but not petrified, because the dryness environment keeps the wood from decomposing.
