Ait Ben Haddou, MOROCCO

A marvelous old ksar (fortified city) along the caravan route from the Sahara and Marrakech. It was already beautiful to see it at sunset but my highlight of Morocco was, undoubtedly, waking up at 6.00 to stroll through the old streets and Kasbahs with a fantastic early morning light, completely alone. The place is and has been used in many films like The Sheltering Sky or Gladiator and TV series like Game of Thrones. Photos from November 2012.

Alcazar of Sevilla. ANDALUSIA

The Alcazar was built as a Moorish fortress on the Xth century and was completed by  the Almohaves along the following centuries. It’s a royal palace since the Spanish reconquista in the XIIIth century, and many buildings, structures and decorations were added afterwards, turning it into one of the most dazzling architectural pieces of Mudejar style. It’s the oldest Royal Palace still in use in Europe. Photos from spring 2013
